Explore The Outdoors

Discover Brevard’s outdoor abundance on foot, on a bike or in a car.  There is so much to see and do in the county’s forest lands: check out some of our 250+ waterfalls; land a fish; climb a rock face.

Mountain Biker

Year-round, enjoy the natural beauty by exploring our waterfalls, road bike routes, mountain bike trails and hiking trails that slice through the county.  Did you know that more than 50% of the county is state or federal forest land?

We have rivers and streams to explore too. There is something so relaxing about floating down the gentle French Broad River. If you have an interest in fishing, consider hiring a guide. Davidson River Outfitters would be a good place to start. Of course, you can just rent an inner tube and float the river if you don’t want to exert yourself but be prepared for some chilly water!

A classic Brevard experience means a chilly run down our natural waterslide, Sliding Rock, in Pisgah National Forest.  There is nothing like sliding down a big ‘ole rock, engulfed by cold mountain water to make you forget about everything but the experience of doing Sliding Rock. It is one of those experiences that will never leave you. Watch this family’s experience:
