Listen To The Music

Music outdoors

There is no shortage of live music listening opportunities in Brevard: Bluegrass, Blues, Classical, Jazz, Opera, you can find it in Brevard!

Transylvania County is, after all, the home of the famous Brevard Music Center https://www.brevardmusic.org

The Music Center Festival kicks off this summer with Lee Ann Womack on June 24. Other artists such as Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder will be playing with the BMC Orchestra later in June. The Fourth of July means the ever-popular Patriotic Pops. As always, the Music Center is a great place for experiencing a tremendous variety of music. A bonus at the Music Center is that you can sit on the lawn so the antsy ones in your group can listen to music without having to be tethered by a seat- a handy tip for those with younger kids.

Pretty much anytime in the summer you can find live, local music. Literally, all you have to do is park and follow your ears.  Live music happens on a regular basis downtown at Blue Ridge Bakery, Celestial Mountain Music and Silvermont Mansion (all on Main Street).

Throughout the year on Monday evenings, local bluegrass and mountain music happens when local musicians get together to pick at Oscar Blues in Pisgah Forest. Anyone can stop by to listen and do some pickin.

Some Sunday afternoons in summer you will often see a ton of cars parked near Duckpond Pottery (1840 Greenville Hwy) and the “Live Music” sign out on the road. If you can find a place to park, pop in to hear live music performed on their deck above the French Broad River. This is one of our favorite spots because it is at the bottom of the mountain where we turn off the Greenville Highway to go home (and to Point of View) so sometimes we just get lucky and stumble into good music and nice people on our way home- pretty sweet! I believe our favorite music event is Mountain Song Festival in September every year at the Brevard Music Center. It is the major fundraiser for the Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County. Every year is a fun, music-filled weekend that makes us stop and appreciate living in this community where arts, music and the outdoors is truly appreciated.  2017 will see Steep Canyon hosting regional artists, as well as Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. It will certainly be another great weekend of music. The lucky folks staying at our our Rest-a-Bit cottage can skip all the traffic and walk to the event on the new sidewalk that ends at the Music Center- no traffic to deal with!  Enjoy a little taste of last year’s Mountain Song Festival:
